Sometimes I would compress it a little using the Effects>dynamic>graphic before normalizing. Brighten it up a little with the SF Graphic EQ and normalize it to 98% of the maximum. After I was finished there I would once again mix it all down and master it using Sound Forge 5. Then I would go about recording my guitar tracks. Mix those down and import hem back into PA9.

Then I would mix that down and import it into Acid Pro 3 to colour it up with percussion and sound effect loops. I would program my midi then record it as my bed tracks. I liked the console view.inserting three effects into three separate auxiliaries and just choosing the referring blue button and slider for the effect and amount of it I wanted for that particular track. I used Pro Audio 9 for my second, third and most of my fourth intrumental Cds. Sonar, so far (and I'm just getting into it) appears to be very complicated.

I typically use Cool Edit 2000 for some editing of the audio. Almost all of the effects I use came with PA9. I use a fairly inexpensive audio technica mic (cost less than $100). I use simple effects on the audio track (some reverb, maybe some EQ, and an audio high frequency stimulator). Essentially midi backgrounds with an audio track recording of my trumpet or flugelhorn. I've stuck with PA9 because it meets my simple needs. I record at 16bit 44.1KHz because I usually burn my recordings to an audio CD. No access to ASIO has not been a problem (that I know of). PA9 runs fine on WinXP with very minor issues that many folks might not even notice.
